NMFC Classification Changes

Effective July 19, 2025

Changes are on the horizon for LTL shippers, and Dayton Freight is committed to helping you navigate the new classification system the NMFC is implementing!

Here’s What You Need to Know!

Effective July 19, 2025, your freight may be classified differently. The NMFC is transitioning from an 11-tier to a 13-tier density-based classification scale in effort to improve pricing accuracy, better reflect actual shipping characteristics and simplify the classification process.

This change is designed to ensure a more precise alignment between freight density and the class it receives, which may impact your shipping costs or packaging requirements.
